I’m Matt – the bloke behind Baits by A.K.I. Born and raised in Liverpool, dad to three
little legends, and completely obsessed with carp fishing. I’ve been on the bank for
over 25 years, but I’ve spent the last 15 properly chasing monsters.
My go-to setup’s a simple solid bag rig, usually with a Purple A.K.I. Wafter sat inside
a PVA full of our Micro Mix Pellet and Purple DUST. I love the thrill of the chase –
when things stop working, that’s when I come alive. Carp fishing’s a puzzle, and I
can’t rest until I’ve figured it out.
I started making my own baits over ten years ago and fell in love with the process.
It’s the same buzz I get from fishing – when it’s not working, I need to know why.
That drive to understand, to improve, and to keep pushing is exactly how Baits by
A.K.I. was born.
Before all this, I spent eight years in the Army as part of the Royal Engineers, my time serving included a tour of Afghanistan, various parts of Africa, and Northern Ireland. Being a veteran’s something I’m unbelievably proud of. As a brand,
we’ve supported loads of charity events and always look out for current and ex-
service lads and lasses. A lot of our team have served, and that sense of pride and
brotherhood runs deep in everything we do.
I live by the motto: “If you give it your best, the universe does the rest.” That’s how I
run the brand, how I fish, and how I live my life.
Favourite UK water? Bluebell’s Mallard Lake – best I’ve ever been to, by a mile.
Dream destination? Jurassic Lake, Thailand. One day, I’ll get there.
