I’m Jack – but most people know me as Wiz. I’ve had that nickname for over 20 years and it’s stuck whether I like it or not. I grew up in Basingstoke and spent three decades there before life took a few unexpected turns and eventually pushed me towards the bank… and that’s where everything changed.
I started fishing three years ago after getting to know an angler through work. I spent two years just watching and learning before finally giving it a proper go – and I’ve never looked back. It changed my mindset, my routine, and gave me something I’m genuinely passionate about. I’m eager to learn and always keen to try something new.
In a short time I’ve thrown myself into everything: float fishing, feeder, carp, tench, and chasing river barbel. My favourite places to fish are the Thames and the Kennet, and on the lakeside it’s Farnham Flint Pit and Cottage Lane – both home to my biggest carp and pike so far.
I’ve got big plans for the future, and I see them happening with this team. A.K.I. has already put me alongside some top lads who share the same drive and the same love for being on the bank.
My go-to carp setup is a simple Ronnie rig, swapping colours and flavours to suit the day. If I need to switch it up, I’ll run a bottom-bait rig. Nothing complicated – just what works.
I live by the motto: “Everything happens for a reason.” I’m easygoing, love a laugh, and try not to take life too seriously despite its chaos. Fishing’s the one place I properly thrive. I’m a huge believer in men’s mental health, and after dealing with my own battles for over a decade, I genuinely think fishing is one of the best cures we’ve got. My aim is simple: meet good people, share the bank, and make a few proper mates along the way.
